We are pleased to announce that Lisa Selby is the winner of Round 04 of the Axisweb Artist Award. Lisa will receive £1,000 plus additional support from Axisweb.

Over the last couple of years, Lisa has built up a large archive revolving around addiction and its effects. It’s a story of love, where the images, sounds and conversations from the routine of addiction, dependency and enabling help give a voice to those who struggle to be heard.

As the recipient of the Axisweb Artist Award, Lisa Selby commented:

I work with people living with addictions, their support systems and their families. They aren’t good or bad people, or outcasts. They are people who make human choices, flawed, but constantly reaching out. I feel compassion for them. Theirs is a difficult path. I’m trying to make sense of this through an honest timeline of events in my own life, hoping people will connect with theirs. The Axisweb Award means that I can experiment with ways to communicate with a wider audience in the hope we can make social changes.

On Lisa’s application Mark Smith, Executive Director commented:

Lisa's ambition and subject matter is about creating the space to encounter and reflect. The personal and political aspects she explores through those captured fragments offers new insight and meaning of the human story and impact of addiction.
