The Fourth Year and Swansea College of Art

Published: 12 May 2017

You’ve just graduated from Art School. Three years of structure and support, what next? It’s a daunting and scary place, and with diminishing opportunities to support artists’, the world can appear bleak.

Our new pilot initiative imaginatively labeled ‘The Fourth Year’ aims to develop a new approach to support and guide recently graduated artists’. Helping them to actively conceive and develop art-sustainable environments required for their practice to thrive.

We are very excited to kick start this in partnership with University of Wales Trinity Saint David’s Swansea College of Art. Going live today, Friday 12 May, is a new profile all about Swansea College of Art. An online showcase that is designed to give young artists’ the opportunity to exhibit their work and collaborate with other artists.

The project is the product of collaboration between UWTSD’s Professor Sue Williams, Head of Painting and Drawing at Swansea College of Art who has exhibited her art work worldwide, and Axisweb.

“I am very happy to assist with this new and exciting venture between Swansea College of Art, UWTSD, Fine Art & Photography department and Axisweb where the students are given an opportunity to showcase their degree work, a place to meet other artists and receive the professional support and advice they need in order to survive the transition between university and the real world. This initiative will enable the students to develop a dialogue with external arts organisations and professionals.”
