Artist Statement

Woolgather [meaning; to engage in fanciful daydreaming] is a contemporary arts organisation that works with creative practitioners to develop new work and dialogue in all visual & live art forms. We have a commitment to cooperation and collaboration between artists to initiate a support network and create new opportunities in the form of artist commissions and professional development. Woolgather aim to commission new work in the areas of public performance, site specific installation, public intervention, and work intended for exhibitions, publications and online resources. Creating exciting opportunities for artists at various stages in their careers, focused on bringing people together to create an engaged and discursive community, ultimately striving to; encourage creative processes, support small organisations/collectives and to promote and celebrate innovative artistic endeavours. Through doing this we hope to nurture an environment that supports and retains recent graduates in the city of Leeds. Woolgather has a strong belief in the importance of the infiltration of art into peoples' daily lives and the possibilities it holds, that the social and emotional satisfaction of art is integral to the development of society. Woolgather advocates that art should not only be for an elitist group of people who are educated and able to 'understand it', but that different forms of art should be able to interact with, and inspire people, from all walks of life, that an open form of communication, which can be viewed and interpreted on many levels, should be strived for. For these reasons Woolgather always endeavour to bring fresh and exciting art to new audiences, create a diverse public experience that engage viewer, and give all audiences an equal voice.
