In 2015 I received a commission from Townshend Landscape Architects for a triptych painting of Granary Square. The Square is the main public space at the new King's Cross development in London, designed by Townshends. The commission gave me an opportunity to explore in depth and on a large scale a subject that fascinates me - the way that people interact and behave in public space. I wanted to show how the Square is used and enjoyed by so many different people including lots of local families and children. I initially did a series of studies to explore how three paintings from different viewpoints would inter-relate to capture a sense of the scale and space of the Square, the activity and energy of the people, the play of the water and the light. I am now adding to these with other paintings of the Square.
