“Clustered Space “.
2023I created this temporary intervention on the site of an old iron ore mine at Croasdale,Cumbria in March 2023.The site is 900 hundred feet above sea level and I purposefully cycled up to the site with a full load of photograph equipment to take advantage of the deep snow formations on the sides of the old tips. I noticed a snow bank that had a thawed out strip in the middle due to a breeze channelled through the middle by a nearby bump in the ground. I was fascinated with this interior space and filled it with clustered snowballs. The slow thaw subtly changed the boundaries and made the snowballs roll as I worked inside the space. As a consequence, the creative process had an organic feel to it with subtle changes and deviations due to the thaw. After documenting the work I had to swiftly leave the Fells due to imminent blizzards.
