Thomas Griffiths
My practice is an inquiry into queerness, confronting conventions of sexuality and binary gender ideals. My work makes playful use of materiality and symbolism to infiltrate spaces of hegemonic masculinity and gay culture. Examining the arising subjects of sexuality, queer identity and the fetishization of idealised hypermasculinity. In turn, questioning the fluctuating boundaries between these cultures. Sensual-yet-gauche representations combine with tongue-in-cheek humour to convey these narratives.
The multidisciplinary nature of my practice allows these themes to translate across virtual and physical spaces, primarily though sculpture, video and digital media. I utilise skills in casting, woodwork, photography and digital software (Photoshop, Premiere Pro, SketchUp, CAD, Blender, Audition) to realise art works.
