Artist Statement

My work is founded in the experiential landscape and through practice-led research I examine the relationship between bodies and places, often using my own body to explore the interface of body and site. I am interested in the various ways in which we inhabit space and, focusing on issues of identity and belonging, I explore responses to a range of different locations (interior and exterior). Responses generated are filtered through previous experience and future projections and, in the process, tensions between longing and belonging are highlighted and, through further exploration, examined and addressed. My practice is underpinned by multi-disciplinary research and critical reflection on the following themes: the space between interior and exterior landscapes; notions of home and inhabitation; experiential time and memory; and embodiment/multi-sensory experience. My work treads a delicate path between the tangible and intangible, documentation and poetry, fact and fiction, presenting in the form of still and moving imagery, sound, text, performance and installation.
