My work explores the interplay of formal relationships, and the bringing together of two separate and opposing elements to form an innate whole.
My work explores the interplay of formal relationships, and the bringing together of two separate and opposing elements to form an innate whole.
I have for a long time been drawn towards the model or plan stage of an idea, as opposed to the end result. Be that in sculpture or architecture I respond to the simplified methods of construction, the reduced nature of scale, form and materials.
It is the sense of potential that interests me. An awareness of the central core of an object forming the basis for its development and growth.
I am currently working on a series of sculptures whereby porcelain geometric planes are constructed into architectural forms. I am also produciing a series of collagraph prints which look at structural qualities on paper.
Working within the restraints of ongoing series allows me greater freedom to explore an aesthetic rooted in each mediums physicality. Through compositional adjustments to form I am able to observe relationships between -
-Independence / Interdependence
-Fragment / Whole
-Internal / External
With the aim always one of simplicity.
