Artist Statement

My practice consists of a mixture of 3-dimensional and 2-Dimensional formats, embracing architecture as my main influence I seek out locations within the built environment that hold fractured histories and memories. Once these locations are found I examine the history and events that surround the area and held within the structures. Constructing and borrowing forms from existing architecture I then translates them into objects with a very human presence. Using sculpture to depict my interest in the structures the materials used reflect its past or present use. Materials such as resin and steel have all been used in response to the requirements of the piece. I feel my work makes people contemplate the past and future legacy of the structural world that we are surrounded by on a daily basis. Recently I underwent a self funded research trip to Southeast Asia which encompassed Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand, Indonesia and Malaysia. During my time there I accumulated a huge wealth of research material documented through photography and sketchbook work. I am now using my experiences and research to produce a new body of work.
