Artist Statement

My main influence for my studio based artworks are model villages and model railways that are deliberately made to represent a nostalgic England that avoids the unpredictability and chaos of contemporary life. I construct versions of these versions, altering scale where the scale has already been altered. The part that interests me is to include 'unsafe' situations in these 'safe' objects. Disasters or accidents, or intersecting constructions suggest different, maybe darker, interpretations than the originals had. Using banal materials such as cardboard I find gives it another twist. Exploring how different constructions reflect the growing social/political instability is a subject that I intend to explore at my studio at Spike Island, Bristol.
