Varvara

Part of an intended series of paintings in which heads are placed in minimal lighting conditions. I think something that may have been in mind at the time was an enduring question, "Can darkness only be painted from memory?" Varvara is Russian / Greek / Bulgarian / Macedonian for Barbara.
