Collapsing past, present, and future into one visual event, my art explores how this can redefine our perception of the transience associated with human life.
Objects, selected from the domestic realm, are used as materials in my works; they are objects that are used by, and made in relation to the movements of the human body. Making sure the objects are still recognisable, I dismantle and alter their identity; developing the latent anthropomorphic elements. I investigate the relationship between human consciousness and the physical material reality by constructing sculptures that utilise space in a way that it becomes part of the artworks, and the artworks embedded themselves within the space.
I experiment with materials intuitively; learning about them through the process of transformation. This may seem simple at first, however, the process of working becomes complex, through which I am continuously discovering ways in which I can work with materials. This is one of the reasons why, aesthetically, I like to find the simplest resolution to the conceptual problem that I so often present myself with. As I work, the artwork defines or redefines the next step of its actualisation. These steps create a vague idea as to what the artwork could possibly become, or is becoming. What can happen is subject to change, and as a result, constant transitional moments arise that are in the process of becoming, or ceasing to exist. The transformation possesses an open ended possibility of what the artwork is able to become and this enables me to work expressively. Photography is employed as a tool to freeze these moments and from these photographs I am able to nominate certain moments to hold the status of being an artwork.
