Born in Germany and raised in Kenya. Sarah Younan worked in the areas of conservation, restoration and theatre stage design in Germany prior to beginning her fine art studies in the Netherlands in 2007. Younan moved to Wales in 2009 and completed her PhD at Cardiff School of Art and Design in January 2016. As an artist, Younan has exhibited work both in the UK and abroad. Her academic and artistic work has been recognised through a number of grants and awards.

    Artist Statement

    Born in Germany and raised in Kenya. Sarah Younan worked in the areas of conservation, restoration and theatre stage design in Germany prior to beginning her fine art studies in the Netherlands in 2007. Younan moved to Wales in 2009 and completed her PhD at Cardiff School of Art and Design in January 2016. As an artist, Younan has exhibited work both in the UK and abroad. Her academic and artistic work has been recognised through a number of grants and awards.

    Sarah's practice spans across performance, ceramics, digital technologies, research and maintenance art. She has extensive experience working with vulnerable adults and is passionate about socially engaged art.

    Born in Germany and raised in Kenya. Sarah Younan worked in the areas of conservation, restoration and theatre stage design in Germany prior to beginning her fine art studies in the Netherlands in 2007. Younan moved to Wales in 2009 and graduated at Bachelor level from the Cardiff School of Art in Design in 2011. After working as a museum guide at the Musée des Beaux Arts in Bordeaux, France, Younan returned to Cardiff to pursue an Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC) funded Masters course in ceramics. Younan graduated in 2012 and was awarded an AHRC doctoral studentship for her research on digital engagement with heritage artefacts. She completed her PhD at Cardiff School of Art and Design in January 2016. As an artist, Younan has exhibited work both in the UK and abroad. Her academic and artistic work has been recognised through a number of grants and awards.
