As a mixed media artist, Robert Ripley often works within the mediums of photography, video, painting, interactive installation, predominantly using found objects as his subject matter.
His specialist area of research and exploration is in re-cycled objects as art. Robert has found the sea a big source of inspiration. He has a fascination for the ‘?otsam and jetsam’ that can be found on most beaches, including increasing volumes of plastics washed up on our shores.
The themes that run through Robert’s work, and repeatedly inspired him, are surrounded by the idea that ‘every moment is a moment of creation.’ He aims to explore this act of creation and how, in a sense, an object might want to express itself, free of our limited perceptions. He aims to explore reactions to these objects in both himself and others.
In many ways, he sees his role as an artist as having the ability to shift perspectives. Something that is discarded can be brought back to life, re-contextualised and expressed in a new light.
