Nottingham
Concepts The starting point of my work stems from my admiration of the still lives by Old Masters, especially Zubaran. His well lit and vibrant objects placed against a dark background gave me inspiration to consider modern packages and containers worth of being represented under the same concept. As my work progressed, the study of such objects gave me the opportunity of perceiving them from another level of reality and, on doing so, deconstructing their primary function. Their bold colours and shapes render these same objects into humanised figures when they are grouped together. By placing them in unusual compositions, they became more unreal. The way they are normally perceived changes and the common place becomes extraordinary. In my most recent work I include the use of text, whose meaning is applied according to the context in which the objects are represented.Influences Murals, oil paintings and C-Type photography of still lives of packages from supermarket.Career path My previous CV remains unchanged. During 2002 I became a co-founder of "Fusearts". This is a group of three artists who work mainly in community projects. This led to an on-going residency at "The Chase Community Centre" in St Anns in Nottingham. The group undertakes different projects that benefit the residents in the area who come from a disadvantaged background, and it has been funded by Nottingham City Council and the National Lottery.
