I draw attention to the relationship and significance of the painted image to the status of a particular painting surface, through indications of displacement. Presenting paintings on plinths and shelves so they become sculptural objects indicates a dysfunctional understanding of traditional display methods, perhaps alluding to a connection between the object and what it may imply - a mismatch of what things are meant to be and what they could be. Low-grade painting surfaces show a dislocation between the relationships to an objects quality. This encodes an expected attitude or idea of the painted image, forming an anti-hierarchical painting stance
