Artist Statement

Penelope Jordan is an Emerging British Artist, whose work is exhibited internationally. Her abstract stitched pieces are intricate interpretations of reoccurring patterns found in natural and manmade surroundings, and are informed by three-dimensional form, shape, texture, colour and optical movement. The aim of Penelope’s work is to interact with the audience, to display sensations of movement as well as emphasise on the two / three-dimensional aspects. It is the fascination of how we see these re-occurring patterns that is of most interest -the visual impact of seeing a pattern within a pattern. Penelope’s pieces involve material manipulation techniques that evolve from process led and problem solving experimentation, stimulating the mind through complex construction and precision. Using mathematical formulae and inventive ways of layering, cutting, folding and stitching materials together by hand, each piece is very labour intensive from start to finish, demanding patience and discipline.
