    Artist Statement

Over the last 30+ years my work has evolved through painting and lightwork installations to digital imaging and an exploration of nano sounds. It has been based on visualising and hearing the mysterious internal workings of our bodies. It could be described as objective self portraiture and the aestheticising of viscera. We are in an age when our view of ‘the figure’ in art is being completely changed by science and technology.

More recently, my work in the field of soundscape goes further into the human experience, by exploring the spirit of being in a particular space or situation. Drawing is also a current preoccupation.

My new digital drawings are taken from a ‘video drawing’ called ‘Dreaming track’, following my recordings of freight trains passing close by at night marking out their lines and forms in the day.  They encompass many aspects of our human relationship with industry, environment, travel, time, landscape, and the colossal versus the delicate.
