Pamela Crowe

Leeds
Pamela Crowe is an artist and writer based in Leeds. Her practice focuses on words and how we say them, on text, voice and performance.

I’m an artist and writer based in Leeds. I work with text, image, video and performance making work about writing, voice, and acting.

I’m interested in words and how we say them, either written, verbally, silently; by occupying a space together, by being apart.

My practice explores how we form in response to others, as a work of relief perhaps, according to the spaces and gaps that another’s physical and psychic form allow. So power eventually, I look at power.

My performance work attempts to clarify the author’s voice and anchor it permanently to the text; to create a direct, authentic voice that interrogates what it means to 'act'. I publish, exhibit, and perform live and online, most recently with The Poetry Society, Leeds Art Gallery, The Poetry Archive, Hyde Park Art Club, Winchester Poetry Festival, Spelt Magazine, LEEDS 2023, Queer Folio, Leeds Summer Group Show, Soanyway Magazine, Leeds Poetry Festival, 20-21 Visual Arts Centre, Corridor8 and Leeds City Museum. My work has been shortlisted for the Bridport Poetry Prize, the National Poetry Competition and the Winchester Poetry Prize. The Bell Tower my first collection, is published with The Emma Press.
