Artist Statement
Through a process of translation I examine the object to discover a sense of place or position. I play with materiality and mediation to question time and place.
I describe my practice as drawing based to affirm an attitude. I like to play with the understanding that drawing is associated with immediacy, narrative memory and intimacy. By accepting these qualities I am able to then play with a sense of time through use of material and mediation.
I use these established attitudes of drawing to question my subject . Mediation and materiality provide another element that helps determine a presence. My most recent interest is in creating illusion through sculptural process. The outcomes play with what is mediated and what is real. I leave the work asking questions about here and there...
'What is happening here when, as a result of the abolition of great distances everything is equally near? What is this uniformity in which everything is neither far nor near is, as it were, without distance.' M. Heidegger 'The THING'
What is the difference between thing and thingness?
