Ammonite Pools, Cotswold Water Park2007 - 2009
A 14Ha habitat restorationtion scheme, incorporating the design and development of sculptural viewing hides set within an extensive landform based on the shape of locally occurring ammonite fossils from the bed of the adjacent gravel extraction pits.
Ammonite Pools is designed to inspire exploration and discovery through:visual exploration by experiencing a stimulating and imaginative landscape for visitors encouraging public access to a range of wildlife rich habitats. Physical exploration through walking, running, cycling & paddle sports, promoting Healthy & Active lifestyles in a unique environment. Educational exploration linked to biodiversity, sustainability especially through the development of the -T-I-M-E-L-I-N-E- concept.
Approximately half of the design was implemented in 2009 before the Aggregates Levy Sustainability Fund was withdrawn. This area continues to develop with new bird species colonising the scrapes and reed beds.
The work will be completed when funding allows.
