Artist

Approved: 14.03.2019

Migrating from Nottingham in the early 1990s, Michael Snodgrass (AKA Snod) is a resident Coventry artist interested in producing rich and evocative monochrome drawings. He has a fascination with textural depth and contrast. His artworks investigate themes of isolation, being lost, threat and vulnerability with characters that wander through a series of post-apocalyptic industrial city landscapes searching for a way back. The worlds he presents to us are alternative, yet familiar, we are carried along with the characters experiencing danger but also resilience. Recent works develop from Grimm’s Hansel and Gretel, exploring a character’s journey to redemption whilst placing them away from “medieval” depictions into derelict spaces.
