Fine Art BA (Hons) and Fashion Design BA

Melanie Berman has plenty of designer credibility and elements to draw from as she was trained in two artistic genres Fashion design (BA) 1980 and consequently employment and then later a Fine Art BA Hons in 2008 painting. She now lives and works in East Sussex and has exhibited in Kent and East Sussex.

If the world is meant to be logical Berman appreciated the illogical of stillness and chaos in paint that is dense or translucent in colour.

Berman build a labyrinth of 'patterned shape recognisers' within her paintings, reflecting on shapes as forms of communicators. Decoded and coding these inner patterns form her inner landscapes. These shapes are used to indicated the continually shifting perspectives and humankind connections to the creative nature of the universe.

Her style of abstraction paintings yearn for transcendence and the infinite. It maybe walking psychologically through portholes as a form of escapism or using super pixels as a forms of communication to discribe objects or enviroments.

Stories and legends of ancient ways and scientific reasoning of pattern recognisers are contemplated in her paintings by using visual signs. Berman's language of oscillating shapes appear to float in timeless space some moving away from each other whilst other join or touch in a form of communication. Berman pursues the invisible and visible threads between nature and science by reducing an images into forms of spatial energy and design.

Her painting ‘Golden Realm’ has predicting future colour trends with its aesthetic discoveries and has been highlighted in House and Gardens September Issue 2017.
