My art practice draws on elements of my personal identity that are mixed with other cultural connections as well as looking at human connections to the natural world. By investigating how multiplicity in cultures are conducive to belonging to a place and to one another, land or property. Identity is explored through mixing tones of colour and forms through mainly painting. Paint can amplify the analogue to different cultures and form partnerships within the process to exterior or interior spaces. Pictorial structures and cultural objects and symbols are used to expand the discussion between an individuals historical past and social forces of today.
Within these real and imaginary spaces that are created, I try and captured and explain the fragility and instability, and yet at the same time, the durability and strengths of society. Cultural upheavals make abstractions emerges yet at the same time there is a closeness to the decorative aesthetic issue that arise. Elements from nature are used as metaphors to reflect human emotions which comes from researching stories and poetry and from pure observation.
There are forms of marrying an abstract, distinctly with an English landscape mingled with memories from another time and culture. I feel it taking in a larger picture yet looking at the smaller things as though searching for inclusion, and tranquillity. There are silences yet loud voices within my paintings and elements that make me want to reveal or conceal through a materiality process, of offering translucent layers or opaque surfaces.
