My practice is a response to places I visit as well as to events in my life. I look for spatial drama and explore the differences between perception and reality. The creative process is intuitive and goes across media, each step taking on life of its own, leading to directions which I had not anticipated. Relationship with landscape is rooted in my past when landscape was the only constant in an unfamiliar world. An image of a city is often used as a metaphor for life. More recent work focuses on the environment and people who inhabit it.
The creative process is intuitive and goes across media, though the expressive directness of drypoint makes it a favourite. Influences come from, amongst others, Franz Kafka, German Expressionists and the Prison series of etchings by Piranesi.
