graphite pencil on sculpted paper-clay 2019

This three-dimensional drawing in the form of a hand is a memento mori and is based on the reality of my own death. It was inspired by the relics of St Oswald. He was thought to be so holy that his hand did not rot after death but remained intact. I'm not so holy, so will rot after my own death.
The drawing of the maggots writhing across the surface of this hand refers to Medieval depictions of the dance of death.
