A Smile Across Time and Space
2020graphite pencil on sculpted paper-clay 2020
This was made in response to L'AiR Arts virtual exhibition Site Visit, 2020. Using the scale of a carte-de-visite, It was inspired by the eternal smiles on the faces of the Sarcophagi in the Louvre collection of Ancient Egyptian antiquities.
It is based on my own smile and is in conversation across time with the original examples. The drawing of scales across the surface refers to similar patterns found in Ancient Egyptian Art History and represents the energy of the smile.
