    Biography

My studio practice explores time, materials and the fallibility of perfect forms in an imperfect world. I investigate the way natural forces return our more geometrically-minded industrial designs to softer and more organic forms. Found objects pulled out of a river or picked up on the side of the road share space with collages made from found paper and images and paintings exploring wear and tear. Tactility and humility are important to me: Scratching, staining, dripping, ripped edges, hanging threads, drying patterns, rubbish, decomposing papers and fabric scraps form a visual language that describes the passage of time and the fallibility of forms. My influences include early Renaissance paintings, early 20th Century abstraction, Arte Povera, matter painting, Japanese Boro textiles, and the observation of plants as they grow and decompose and grow again. I have a studio in Hackney, London, and frequently collaborate with other artists to produce site-specific pieces and community-based arts projects.
