resourceCITE; archive of site and context responsive artwork2005 - 2008
resourceCITE is a transportable archive of catalogued information about site and context–responsive artworks. Housed in recycled suitcases, with geographically divided components, the archive allows visitors to access the documented work in a variety of different formats including books, any printed material, DVDs, JPG CD’s, VHS tapes, slides and audio CDs.
The archive aims to de-mystify art that is made for specific sites and contexts and presents artists and the public with an inspiring overview of current practice in this area. It can be toured easily and subsequently it continues to develop as it moves around, gathering new submissions and playing host to discussion and networking.
The archive accepts submissions on a continuous basis, and artists at any stage of their career may submit work in one or more of the above formats.
resourceCITE is a project by Polka Flock, an independent art group based in Leeds, UK. Polka Flock used to be called EmergeD Leeds and have initiated a number of projects and collaborative art works. Here are some of our projects:
April/May 2004 – [shift] Looking beneath the everyday city: a 3-week site-responsive project in an unused market unit in Leeds City Centre, involving 18 artists and 40 volunteers. Art-work took place in the market and around the city centre with 2-weeks being dedicated to ‘Process Lab’ – a space for artists to develop work on-site.
April – November 2005 – resourceCITE artist talk programme
May 2005 – Burmantofts Walk – a guided walk around the Burmantofts area of Leeds with residents and non-residents. Followed by tea and cake.
March/April 2006 – The Tour – an audio documentary made from a tour of 5 cities in the UK to investigate how the arrival of a large survey of British art (the British Art Show 6) had or was effecting the artists in the city.
May 2006 – Sideshow Festival, Nottingham – resourceCITE archive open to the public throughout the festival
Summer 2007 – 42 New Briggate Gallery, Leeds – a programme of independent art exhibitions and events, accompanied by resourceCITE archive open to the public.
resourceCITE was initiated by Lucy Gibson and developed by Lucy, Yvonne Carmichael, Eva Rowson, Lisa Boudreau and Victoria Lucas.
