Artist Statement

I am repeatedly drawn to explore subjects which are not often considered by respectable society. I examine the things we fear and the things that make us squirm in discomfort. To that end, polite conversation does not call to me. My recent works explore the inherent shadow of death and the gendered conventions around nudity and sexuality. I strive to allow myself free rein in my work and not subdue the starkness of the subjects I explore. I want to remove the sheet and,in a calm and measured manner, repeatedly look at things often hidden away. The genesis of my work is a quest for fuller understanding of how we function as a species and how we choose to spend our time and energy. I am interested in how we express our values in our allotted time on the planet.
