Chichester
I am a painter who works also with photography. I had a traditional art education, but am interested in working across boundaries. I am also a musician and interested in sound.

Concepts At present I am making paintings from photographs of shadows; sometimes the source material is included, but not always. This drives an ongoing concern with location, time, memory and space; making order out of chaos; searching to reveal hidden links; evoking feeling through absence. This also relates to an interest in 'imaginary spaces', as in the large body of photographic work I have recently completed - FLUVIATILE, and sound works I made for "Acoustic Shadows" and "Watershadows" at Site Gallery, Sheffield Influences Post modern philosophy relating to art, culture, society and gender. Psychology of looking, hearing and thought. Career path I trained in painting at Camberwell School of Art and at the Royal Academy Schools between 1970 and 1977. On finishing I exhibited widely as a painter. In 1993 I started an MA in Art, Design and Critical Theory at Sheffield Hallam University, finishing in 1996. Within this period my work changed considerably and gave me greater freedom to explore new media and ways of working, particularly with sound and installation. In 2000 I started an 18-month residency at Site Gallery, Sheffield, to work on a digital arts project. I was awarded a digital art bursary from the Arts Council of England which funded 18 months of digital arts training at the gallery.
