Artist Statement

I am an artist, educator and researcher based in the West Midlands.

I work with painting and printmaking, between spaces for making and writing, drafts and notes, where the textual slips into the visual. Text and graphic forms are a recurring motif that are to be read through one another. My work is connected by experiences of learning, reading and writing, how patterns of meaning are generated, articulated and repeated. I am interested in the provisional and fragmentary quality in learning – a kind of drafting or notational space; ‘notation, has the additional advantage of showing clearly those structural elements that do not appear on the surface.’*

A feminist approach to education undercurrents this thinking, how can spaces of teaching and painting learn from each other? I utilise the writing of female authors and archival materials as a guide, where histories and voices intersect, enabling blankness to speak.

I am a studio holder at Eagleworks, Wolverhampton.
