Artist Statement

Through painting I explore what it is to perceive reality in a time when doing so is becoming increasingly fraught with difficulty. In the ambiguous spaces I create, there is no determining what is supposedly ‘real’ from what might be fictitious. My paintings have an overtly seductive quality. Through the use of various painterly devices I persist in reminding the viewer of paintings artifice and its illusionistic predilection. I exploit the formal aspects of the paintings, pushing tensions such as that between the paintings surface and the sense of depth offered by the illusion of space.
