Artist Statement

I am a painter primarily concerned with architectural forms and the urban landscape, our place within it, our affect upon it and, in turn, its effect upon us. I often use psychogeographical walking as a starting point for the work, literally tracking the images down by following predetermined paths. My work explores themes of home and belonging, transience, preservation, trace and lineage. I seek out places which otherwise go unnoticed and bring them to the fore. I work mostly with acrylic paint on board, building up layers to create a perfect flat facade and to mimic with paint and tape processes of printmaking and the use of photoshop. The facade, dramatic graphic forms and colours used in printmaking and advertising, ideas of Britishness and collective memory all inform my practice.
