Artist Statement

'Everyday' is inherent within the art practice. Habitual routines are revealed by focusing on idiosyncrasies; gathering and collecting, rhythms and repetitions. 'The significance of the insignificant' is publicised whilst highlighting what is already there. A raw humanness is exposed as the audience becomes the voyeur. Time is intrinsic. Monotony exposes slow progress through seemingly mundane tasks. The past is explored by the artist gathering and merging with mnemonic objects. The objects gathered are a portal to the past. The memories are divided into three areas: experiential, learned and implied. Experiential memory being a first hand nostalgic account. Learned memory is the recollection of an individual relayed to another. Implied memory being the unknown narrative of the past. Value is placed on all. As with the objects, places trigger reminiscence. The artist documents the inhabiting of a space. The history becomes transparent. The encounter creates experiential memories for the artist and viewer. Life is a flux. The artwork fluctuates. There is no conclusion. Only meditation, reflection, and collation. Ruminations relevant to contemporary quotidian evolve into tomorrow's mnemonic. This is embraced as it becomes the impetus of prospective work.
