Biography

Karolina Albricht’s empirical approach employs various notions of metaphysics and anthropology and forms a constant enquiry into human nature. Her work filters particular events and subjects and resonates as a human experience of duality: dream and reality, profound and banal, subjective and objective.
Duality applies to both formal and narrative aspects of her practice. Albricht moves in and out of abstraction, using its elements while still referencing the world and inserting a sense of tension into her work. The content is often formed by experimentation of texture, viscosity and paint application. Her painting process is synthetic and combines digital and manual; sketches, cut outs, collage and Photoshop. Albricht analyses interactions of colours and shapes and translates them into planes, marks and gestures often contrasting them with geometrical forms and allowing the intended and intuitive to meet.
