My work is a personal response of being in the landscape. Collecting natural materials, making site specific drawings and collating these experiences as memory, enables me to create paintings that explore the relationships between these references. I am interested in allowing the paintings to develop without any preconceived idea of its final result. I enable hierarchies to establish themselves within the canvas, whether it is to do with the materiality of the oil paint, a particular form that is emerging, or a dominance of a particular colour. There is a constant interplay between these elements and myself - as the work develops, an image will eventually emerge that is a mix of recall, intuition and deliberation.
