    Artist Statement

The photographic image is fundamental to my practice, using it as the medium to explore the relationship between a still image, the photographic sequence and a moving image. Outside the confines of conventional photographic forms, I use the camera to record unregistered visual aspects of time and space. My work encompasses video installation, photographic collage and digitally reconstructed objects.

My work often has historical references, with a particular interest in the aesthetics of textiles and clothing, as they occur in all aspects of daily life. The work is inspired by the depiction of fabric in all art forms, throughout art history, along with its interpretation and relevance.

During my research I read about Aldous Huxley, who experienced an awakening to the meditative power of drapery during a monitored experimentation with Mescaline in the early 1950’s. He commented that what he experienced had shown him into an artist’s mind, captivated by the beauty of folds of cloth. The implication that this opening of his mind gave access to an otherwise unappreciated artist’s view point made me question the extent to which my own view was untypical. My practice explores this view.
