Biography

I am intrigued by the idea that survival and societal progression are similar things, each helping to bring about a continual cycle of renewal and obsolescence. Whilst decay, deterioration and neglect are central themes of my practice, I am also interested in the quest to transcend that which is deemed ordinary.

My site-specific work explores the narratives, stories and rumours that make a space familiar. I am interested in the idea that repetition and contact builds a sense of space and how abandoned or derelict spaces offer the possibility for places, spaces and our relationship with them to be re-imagined. This approach to site influences my work in sculpture and in putting together exhibitions.

My recent film-work tells stories of the precariat in an attempt to capture alienation as a consequence of that cycle of renewal and obsolescence some might call progress. In designing these films I draw upon personal experiences with flights of fantasy.

I was a founding member of the artist collectives Wolstenholme Projects, Liverpool (active member 2006-09) and POST, site-specific artist collective (active member 2008-2012). In 2018 I cofounded Caraboo Projects, Bristol and actively contribute to developing exhibitions and events.
