My practice as a visual artist co-exists in a symbiotic relationship with my practice as an educator, the two feeding and supporting each other.
As an artist I have a close relationship with materials. Materials and their embedded meanings often providing the starting point for my pieces. My process draws on textile and craft techniques in the manipulation of paper, metal, fabric, books and most recently money. My work is mainly sculptural or drawn and self-referential in exploring the nature of the creative process itself, the experience of making and the relationship between word and image.
As an educator I am concerned with the development of high quality, creative, education opportunities for young people. I specialize in learning through, in and about the arts, enquiry-based education, cross-curricular approaches to learning and curriculum development. I teach primary age students at Southbank International School in London, where I have developed a conceptually focused curriculum that simultaneously supports the progression of visual arts skills. I also work as a consultant, project manager and run training for teachers.
