Biography

I live and work in Derbyshire, in the heart of England, on the doorstep of the stunning Peak District National Park. I have always loved to draw and paint for as long as I can remember, and I just never stopped - and now I'm a full-time artist! I sketch and paint daily and teach regular painting workshops at my home studio.

Without a doubt, watercolour is my favourite medium. My father bought me a beautiful set of watercolours when I was fifteen, and I immediately fell in love with them. Nearly thirty years later, I never tire of using them, and find that their unpredictability still excites me every time I pick up my brushes. Watercolour is known for being a hard to handle medium, but my approach is not to try to overly control the paint, instead I work intuitively with their fluidity to create loose and spontaneous flows of vibrant colour, bringing the subject to life on the paper, creating detail from the abstraction. My aim is to create fresh and lively paintings, with an attitude of joie de vivre about them, capturing the essence of the subject in a sensitive way.

I show my award-winning paintings at exhibitions across the UK and internationally, with work held in numerous private, corporate and public collections. My art has been featured in many publications, and even on CD covers!
