Evidence and traces of the changes in how we live inspire the questions I think about in my practice:
How do we relate our sense of being to the places we live in?
Is our contemporary sense of being really so dislocated from the body of our planet?
Are there psychogeographic markers of spiritual moments in which environmental supports and the creature human become visible?
My methodology of making is predisposed to ‘living lightly’. Referential character and contrasting qualities of commonly found materials can be manipulated to reveal an experience of the suburban environment that shows signs of emotional and spiritual connections with the land.
I respond directly to my material environment, using carefully selected salvaged local materials, writing and field-walking alongside visual skills such as drawing, painting, printing, digital manipulation and photography to create an installation or 2d work, learning skills appropriate to facilitating my ideas. My work has appeared as a clay processing unit installation, writing, large painted polythene sheets and assemblages of found materials and small casts.
