Artist Statement

I am a First Class Interactive arts BA Hons graduate from Manchester School of Art. My degree show piece, Clandestine, received 2 awards from the University and was praised by director and filmmaker Danny Boyle amongst many other professionals. The installation will be available to view and buy from Manchester Art Fair 11th-13thOctober.

Whilst studying at Manchester School of Art I created a range of artwork including a video of igniting, matchstick kissing lips and a pair of interactive embroidered pillow hands, big enough for a human to lie in. I enjoy creating work that requires the audience’s physical engagement or plays with their senses. Humans process information in a completely different way when they are allowed to interact with it.

I explored this concept of interaction when I made a giant ‘Yes and No’ quiz, for which questions about the human condition were spray painted across the walls and floor of a gallery. Participants were encouraged to physically follow certain arrows, depending on their answers, leading to different parts of the space.

My current practice takes influence from socially engaged art, politics and the relevance of art activism in the modern world. This is currently informed by primary and secondary research, exploring whether art be used affectively as a platform or catalyst for social change. I will create work using installations and other artistic mediums. I also intend on exploring socially engaged work, collaborating with a charity or protesters striving for social change.
