Concepts I trained and worked as a landscape architect before developing a career in art and design. This has lead to a creative mix of artworks and projects, undertaken in a variety of settings and locations, often drawing on landscape experience and practice. Some projects result from the discovery or rediscovery of a new or familiar area, looking at the surroundings in a quirky and often unusual way, by digging up the past or investigating cultures and the relationship of people to their location. Often by finding one small item or reflecting on a quote, a body of work will begin to form. Other project are a result of listening to and working with communities and groups, creatively to solve or address issues. I work in many different media, chosen specifically for each project, this leads to new skills being learnt continuously, and the ability to work with suitable materials for each site or project. Precise and methodical practice gives well-executed and strong visual outcomes with often quietly humorous and unexpected elements. After spending Oct 2007/Oct 2008 in Northumberland on a year long residency, I now have bases both in Norfolk, England and Bergen, Norway. Influences I am influenced by my landscape architectural background, which gives me a strong understanding of both built and rural environments. This background has also been a foundation for my intrigue to how we read our surroundings and integrate in it, be it man made signs or natural coincidences. 1950s graphics, kitchen utensils, journeys and bike rides, blue dogs, text, diary documentation, chance happenings, colour charts, ice, gloves etc feature in my work as does the importance to reuse and recycle resources as much as possible.
