My practice incorporates photography, video, installation, sound, found images, text and objects to probe gender roles and hierarchical structures in patriarchal society. I am inspired by Zen, Neuroscience, Arte Povera and Eco-feminism to explore human and animal consciousness and analogous behaviours and emotions such as empathy, play, fear, joy, grief and anxiety.  My work draws inspiration from C J Adam's theory of the absent referent. I am committed also to working in the area of Arts and Health.

Biography

My practice incorporates photography, video, installation, sound, found images, text and objects to probe gender roles and hierarchical structures in patriarchal society. I am inspired by Zen, Neuroscience, Arte Povera and Eco-feminism to explore human and animal consciousness and analogous behaviours and emotions such as empathy, play, fear, joy, grief and anxiety.  My work draws inspiration from C J Adam's theory of the absent referent. I am committed also to working in the area of Arts and Health.

I have a strong track record leading participatory photography projects. A Show of Hands which was an artist residency in a London care home populated by over 30 people living with dementia and other mental health needs, led by Westminster Arts, funded by Arts Council England and the NHS. In summer 2012 I led 8 photography workshops for people with early stage dementia and their carers at the Photographers' Gallery London. I am developing my dementia arts project through a global art exchange between people living with dementia, part of Michaelangelo Pistoletto's Third Paradise / Rebirth-Day 2014

I have exhibited and published in the UK and abroad including shows at Curzon Cinema Soho, Brighton Photo Fringe, Bath Royal Literary & Scientific Institute, Barbican Arts Trust, Krakow Photomonth and Photomonth East London. In 2015 I will show work at the National Museum of Animals & Society, LA, USA, with 14 international artists to commemorate Carol J Adam's 25th Anniversary of The Sexual Politics of Meat; with my writing and photographs published in the accompanying The Art of the Animal.
