Artist Statement

I use text, painting, drawing and photography and books to examine language, representation and meaning.  Employing rules, formulae and systems, my methods include making lists and collections, alphabetizing and rearranging texts and writing instructions. I am interested in the construction of meaning and how the arbitrary and personal interplay with the apparently logical and rational.

I am particularly engaged with the book-as-artwork - an affordable and democratic form to communicate ideas about language and visual experience. Since 2012 I have self published over twenty books. Many of them are now held in public collections in the UK, USA , Europe and Scandinavia. I regularly show my books at artists' book fairs.

In 2017 I was given two commissions for temporary public artworks in Cheltenham and Hastings. I was particularly interested in showing works in public contexts such as bus shelters (Cheltenham) and a newspaper (Hastings).
