A commission for Platform 7 at Bury St Edmunds Art Gallery and Margaret Harvey Gallery, St Albans - including interactive installation, market stall and performance.
Fresh Air comments on the privatisation and contamination of the essential ingredients of life and aims to make people smile whilst provoking serious questions about what is 'fresh' air, who controls it and its impact on health, both worldwide and on our own doorstep. The work also comments on our addiction to consumerism and how we can sell/commodify almost anything.
I researched and developed an Air Raid Kit, giving people all they need to calculate their air inhalation requirements and to successfully collect for their future needs.
I also created and marketed a number of Fresh Air varieties, giving away free trial sizes to passers-by in a performance at Ipswich, Buttermarket. I offered five varieties, each harvested by hand in unique locations near my Suffolk home. Moreover, I undertook research into the likely consituents of our air and the boxes carried details of these possible ingredients (including many pollutants) and warnings about their use.
In addition, gallery visitors were invited to donate their own air to Air Aid to help those in need of better air quality - both here in the UK and worldwide -and to carry an Air Donor Card in their wallets.
