Artist Statement

My practice is reactive, working in performance, sculpture, painting, installation and video. I recognise that my work has become politicised as I look to my background and the headlines.   In 2015 I attended the Paris Climate Summit and made art through the improvisation of protest. I worked with Art Not Oil, where I participated in performance, reclaiming reportage by making headlines through action.

The next step in 2016 was my commission in Plymouth, where I enacted a performance, projecting the voices of the stories I had engaged in, painting these as new headlines on to newspapers and displaying them in a space that indicated a newsagents. This saw me seeking out opportunities to explore my role as conduit. I have been exploring ways to actively challenge newspapers representations, adding conversations I have had with marginalized communities into the press then returning the newspapers into circulation.

I have a studio practice and was awarded a scholarship to complete an MA at Camberwell where I gained a distinction.  Awards include University of the Arts Vice Chancellor’s Scholarship, Nancy Balfour Final Year Award, The London Centre for Book Arts and the Bookartbookshop Residency.
