Artist Statement

My work focuses on the body, both animal and human, in large scale site specific installations, sculpture, photography and performance. I use every day materials to create sculptures that have a strong sense of presence and rich materiality.

I have used animals in my work in order to investigate our need to make them more like ourselves, whilst at the same time we are able to turn them into consumable commodities.  I am interested in anthropomorphism and our ability to read a human or animal form into an abstract shape.  Some of my recent sculptures combine elements that could be read as animal, human or vessel.  They explore the cultural associations we have with fabric; the choice of patterns and colour suggest a lightness that is often at odds with the heaviness of the form.

I am also the curator of Old Big School Gallery in Tonbridge and manage its exhibition programme and accompanying events.
