Dragging The Archive: Queens, Kings... and Things
8th June 2023Location: Bishopsgate Institute, London
To celebrate the launch of the Orlando Myxx archive at the Institute, Orlando is joined by artist and researcher Elly Clarke for an exploration of drag in relation to the archive.
A Performative Lecture will drag the audience through screenings of The Plastic Drag series, live performances and a discussion about creating and caring for the queer archive.
In physics, drag is a force that pulls in two directions at once: forwards, and back; up, and down. It is also both a performance – with the possibility of transformation – and a burden, or resistance. Within the context of this archive, how do we hold this tension? How do we represent evidence of a time, an event, a happening, a performance out of the physical and digital matter that remains?

With the rising cost of living impacting everything from energy and heating costs to the price of food we recognise our events may be out of reach for many people. We want to ensure that all members of our community are able to access our events and performances. For this reason, we are introducing a pay-it-forward ticket system. By purchasing a pay-it-forward ticket, you help us make free tickets available to members of our community who would otherwise be restricted from attending due to financial reasons.
