Artist Statement

I originally trained as a Visual Artist specializing in Time Based Media, at the core of my practice is an ongoing investigation into ideology of the Utopian and Dystopian in the urban environment. I am fascinated by the ideological vocabulary and imagery that sells us an unobtainable ideal, by our constant craving for it and our repulsion at our desire for it. As part of my practice I have always been very active in the organization, curation and development of exhibitions and events. As such I have recently decided on a career change and decided to develop my administrative and managerial skills and take an MA in Arts Administration and Cultural Policy. Currently I am the Arts Administrator and Course Leader for a social enterprise who specialize in teaching children and young adults creative skills. I am in charge of all administrative responsibilities for the studio such as funding bids, planning and organising logistics related to events, buildings, artists and other personnel and taking responsibility for operational management issues such as studio accessibility, health and safety issues and building maintenance. Furthermore as course leader I am responsible for the running of the Visual Arts Programme, this includes setting a scheme of work for the students across the year and teaching and leading workshops and classes. In addition to this I teach tutorials and deliver lectures at Higher and Further educational institutions, most recently at Warwickshire College for their foundation course and at Wimbeldon College of Art and Camberwell College of Art on their BA Fine Art programmes. I still continue to practice as an Artist and to exhibit internationally with up coming exhibitions in Berlin, Tokyo and Beijing, although the bulk of my income comes from Arts Administrative and lecturing jobs, I balance my practice with running, developing and curating exhibitions, events and festivals at both a national and international level.
